A patronymic surname derived from the Old Germanic given name Ever or Eberhard — from eber (wild boar) combined with hard (strong, brave). The wild boar was a symbol of strength and ferocity in Germanic warrior culture, and names incorporating eber- were among the most common in the medieval Low Countries. Evers (son of Ever) became fixed as a hereditary surname across many Dutch families. The name also appears as Ebers, Everaert (Flemish), and Everink.
Common across the Netherlands, with concentrations in Overijssel, Gelderland, and the eastern provinces. Also common in the Flemish-speaking parts of Belgium as Everaert.
